I’m The Nomadic Geologist — a field geologist-for-hire travelling contract to contract across the UK and beyond, with a campervan for an office and a pair of muddy boots as standard issue.
Recently I’ve traded boardrooms for boreholes, PowerPoints for permafrost (or at least persistent drizzle), and an office life for the unpredictability of drill schedules and dodgy campsites. I work on contract projects: logging core in the hills of North Wales, chasing groundwater in industrial Essex, or navigating passive-aggressive Teams meetings from a layby with sketchy Wi-Fi in Scotland.
This blog is where I share the stories that don’t make it into the reports — the muddy realities, campervan chronicles, geological oddities, and occasional philosophical ponderings that come with living life in hi-vis and sleeping where you park.
If you like rocks, road trips, sarcasm, or just need reassurance that someone out there is brushing their teeth in a storm behind an Ikea — welcome aboard
